Am I the Last Person to See These?

Whenever I come across a "viral" video on the internet, I always assume that everyone else has seen it. But then my husband - who is a YouTube junkie - somehow missed the original Susan Boyle/Britain's Got Talent video until like three weeks later. I still love that video by the way - not so much for SuBo (as Perez Hilton is stupidly calling her) but for how adorable Simon Cowell is when surprised. Yes, I just said Simon Cowell is adorable. Anyway, am I the only one who hasn't seen these literal videos yet? They're like my law-school guilty pleasure "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" but set to '80s music. Am I disclosing way too much of my inner nerd here? Shut up. Enjoy. and.... *and the one freaking time I want to embed a freaking YouTube video into a post and YouTube is a mess this afternoon. I'm waiting, waiting, waiting for this shit to load. I hope it loads for you, my millions (or tens) of readers....

Red Lobster

Today was the last day of school. Kindergarten? Done. First Grade? Done. Any hope of me regaining my sanity in, say...the next 80 days? Nada. J and I decided to take the kids to dinner to celebrate the beginning of summer break. At Red Lobster. I don't know why. J didn't think he'd been to Red Lobster in 20 years. Since a double date in college. Yep, that's my man - taking girls to Red Lobster. Smoooooth, that one. I haven't been since a co-worker's craving for cheddar biscuits took us there more than 10 years ago (and hadn't been before that in probably another 10+ years). But Red Lobster was always my favorite as a child - so I thought my kids would love it. Fried everything. What's not to love? My love for Red Lobster, though, is gone. A moment that has passed. A piece of nostalgia that cannot be created. Two reasons. First, the food. I'm sure it was never particularly great - but breaded and fried popcorn shrimp dredged in cocktail sauce and/or

Unsurprisingly

I can't believe it even took this long. Last night, at a four way stop, I said (to another car/driver), "JESUS! Is anyone going to give me a turn?" C said "Jebus, jebus, jebus . . . jebus . . . jebus, jebus" the entire rest of the way home. I'm just pleased it wasn't "fuck". That's already what they call forks though. ***** In other news, spring break started yesterday. I'm looking forward to and dreading the next 10 days. And I'm exhausted, which tends to slow entries to this blog severely. My writing is going other places - family law websites, criminal law websites, law firm websites, kids' activities websites, kids' clothing websites, criminal law trial summaries. And my energy is going there too - along with the energy I give to my kids. So, I'm tired. I hope that my kids are entertaining enough over break that I have some stories to share! Happy St. Patrick's Day next week to everyone - and this weekend for e

Infomercial Madness Comes to Life

So, you know how my kids are obsessed with infomercials? The Space Bag , the Buxton Organizer, the Craft-Lite Cutter , Mighty Putty? (Current favorite is, of course, the Snuggie.) Today, C dumped someone's leftover milk off the kitchen counter. All over the floor, cabinets, counter stool. J started wiping it up. I grabbed a rag and was running it under the faucet to follow behind, when M came into the kitchen. "Wait! I'll get the Shamwow!" she said as she ran to the laundry room. Yes, Internets. We are proud owners of the Shamwow . (And also, Debbie Meyer's Green Bags, which Santa brought for G's stocking. Heh.) In my defense (a weak one, I'll admit), I didn't order the Shamwow from Tony on TV. I bought them at Target from an As Seen on TV endcap. Because I'm a sucker.

01/20/09

I am wonderfully amazed that my children have no idea why today is so historic. In their lives, it is not unusual that the President of the United States is African-American. And that is so cool that I choke back tears just to type it. Mostly, they are excited that two little kids are moving into the White House today. To them, that is the coolest thing that will happen on this day. And that innocent thought alone is pretty freaking awesome. I love it. I am hopeful today that the President will have an administration that will give his detractors little to complain about, one that will stand up to the historic position his election created, one that will make those who went before him and those who elected him proud, one that will make this country better than it is today. He can certainly talk the talk. Now is the time to walk the walk. For my children, I hope that the excitement continues well beyond today. (And I just saw Malia Obama videotaping her dad giving his inaugural addres

A Different World

One of my CCD (religion class) students - 7 years old - told me last night that her family hides their car behind their house "because someone keeps wanting to steal it." He's called the repo man, sweetheart. And it makes me sad that you have to worry about him.
