Monday's reds

I treated myself on Monday and went to see three exhibitions; William Klein + Daido Moriyama at Tate Modern and Cartier-Bresson: A question of colour and Tim Walker: Story Teller at Somerset House. It's probably been about four years since I did a full art day on my own, and I must admit it felt both weird and wonderful. William Klein was really good (Moriyama=zzzzz) and I was so happy to finally see some Saul Leiter prints in the flesh. I wish I could have put them in my bag and walked off home! I was also totally blown away by seeing Joel Meyerowitz, Ernst Haas and Fred Herzog's pictures. I think my eyes might have been drooling. On another day I'm sure I would have enjoyed the Tim Walker exhibition, but after seeing such amazing street photography, fashion photography in comparison just looked stupid.

Lots of Candles and Holidays

Yesterday was my birthday. When I walked into the kitchen in the morning, my seven year old said: "Mom! When did you get taller?" Gee, I wonder if he's heard that on a birthday or two himself... ************** Also from G: Mom, can we celebrate Hanukkah? No, probably not. We're not Jewish. Oh, darn it! And we don't even speak Jewish... ************** That was followed the next day by: Mom, can we PLEASE just TRY to celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa? ************** Busy day today. We went and bought a new car for me. Updated version of what I had before. New color. And fancy wheels. Mama's got rims. And then we took the big kids to see the Rockettes Christmas show downtown. It was really good. I expected more kids but this was truly an all ages show. Tons of adults there without children. As we crossed the street from the parking garage to the arena, G commented that " Sprint Center looks like a disco ball cut in half ." And I looked. And it does.

Joshua Tree rocks

Joshua Tree has got to be one of my favourite places I've ever been to. I went there years ago and immediately fell in love with it, and felt a bit sad that me and the guys wouldn't be able to go there this time round, JT being a desert and it being summer and all. But the weather gods were on our side, and for a couple of days the temperature dipped enough for us to head out there. After walking around Mount San Jacinto, we continued on to JT, for ribs at The Rib Co. and to catch the sunset. I don't feel that any picture can do Joshua Tree justice, it's that wonderful. If you ever go to LA or Vegas, try to fit in JT - you won't regret it. As for us, we slightly misjudged where to watch the sunset from, finding ourselves too low to see it dip behind the horizon, but the drive to where we were staying, through the empty national park, more than made up for it.
