The Water is Wide | Family Sing Along - Muffin Songs

Hình ảnh
The Water is wide The water is wide, I can't cross over. And neither have I the wings to fly. Build me a boat that can carry two, And both shall row, my true love and I. O, down in the meadows the other day A gathering flowers both fine and gay, A gathering flowers both red and blue, I little thought what love can do. I leaned my back up against a young oak Thinking it was a trusty tree But first it bended and then it broke And did my false love to me. A ship there is and she sails the seas. She's loaded deep, as deep can be; But not so deep as the love I'm in And I know not if I sink or swim. O love is handsome and love is find Bright as a jewel while first it's new But love grows old and waxes cold And fades away like the morning dew. The water is wide, I can't cross over. And neither have I the wings to fly. Build me a boat that can carry two, And both shall row, my true love and I

Waltzing Matilda | Family Sing Along - Muffin Songs

Waltzing Matilda lyrics: Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong Under the shade of a coolibah tree, And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled: "Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me?" Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled: "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me." Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong. Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee. And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag: "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me." Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me", And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag: "You'll come a-waltzing Matilda, with me." Up rode the squatter, mounted on his thoroughbred. Down came the troopers, one, two, and three. "Whose is that jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag? You'

My friends and hosts in Amsterdam run a restaurant and a deli in the city ( Rainarai - if you're in town go check them out, they serve delicious Algerian food), and one afternoon when we popped in on some errands the light was truly magical. For about 15 minutes I sat there just enjoying the show, and bizarrely took most of the pictures on my phone - uuhm, idiot! I still dream of the tasty tagine we ate there. Must go again. And again. And again. And move there. No, sadly that won't happen, but a girl can dream! Happy Friday and thank you so much for your comments here and on Instagram about MFE's birthday and the new website. You guys rock.

Hey, guess what?! Somehow the blog has turned seven years old! I can't quite believe it! In a time where most people and their mother (including mine!) are on Instagram, blogs are still dear to me. It's more fun and interesting to see a fuller story behind an image or an experience, to gain something a bit more substantial than a little short comment (which I am guilty of over on IG) and a nice picture. Thanks to those of you who still take the time to check in here, and especially to those of you who leave a comment, I really appreciate hearing from you. In other news: I have made a portfolio website - finally! If you hop on over to www.famapa.net   you can check it out for yourselves. And commission me and give me work, and an exhibition etc etc - haha! This is the year when I'll take my photography a bit more seriously, and hopefully there's some new adventures on the way. Let me know what you think! Now if you excuse me, I think I need to go and get me some cake to

The back

At the Stedelijk there was a section showing how the museum kept their art safe during the Second World War . They built a bunker in the dunes by the sea where they hid priceless art from the Nazis, and implemented a system of marking the back of paintings, according to how important they were. These three paintings were hung back to front to show the different coloured dots (sadly I can't remember which of three colours was deemed "irreplaceable") - don't they look great?! I might blow one of these up big, so I can hang one on our wall...

Swanee River | Family Sing Along - Muffin Songs

Lyrics: Swanee River Way down upon the Swanee River, Far, far away That's where my heart is turning ever That's where the old folks stay All up and down the whole creation, Sadly I roam Still longing for the old plantation And for the old folks at home Chorus: All the world is sad and dreary everywhere I roam Oh darkies, how my heart grows weary Far from the old folks at home All 'round the little farm I wandered, When I was young Then many happy days I squandered, Many the songs I sung When I was playing with my brother, Happy was I Oh, take me to my kind old mother, There let me live and die Chorus: One little hut among the bushes, One that I love Still sadly to my mem'ry rushes, No matter where I rove When shall I see the bees a humming, All 'round the comb When shall I hear the banjo strumming, Down by my good old home Chorus:

Saw some great graphic posters at the Stedelijk . The font in the poster on the left in the last picture pretty is awesome, don't you think? And it's from 1929! It's making me miss my graphic design days...

Hoi! It's been a while innit? Those of you who follow me on Instagram will know that I was in Amsterdam again last week - my first trip away on my own since having Oomoo. It felt strange to be there without them as we all love it there, but I enjoyed being able to take in more of the city, and go and do things that they don't enjoy as much, like looking at art and around shops. It's been hard for me to put together posts from the trip; I was taking pictures for pleasure and not for the blog, if you know what I mean. Anyway, these are all from an afternoon that me and my local friend Z spent in the Stedelijk Museum   - and yes, we are matching shoe friends :)

Home on the Range | Family Sing Along - Muffin Songs

Lyrics: Home on the Range Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam, Where the deer and the antelope play, Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day. Chorus Home, home on the range, Where the deer and the antelope play; Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day. Where the air is so pure, the zephyrs so free, The breezes so balmy and light, That I would not exchange my home on the range For all of the cities so bright. Chorus The red man was pressed from this part of the West He's likely no more to return, To the banks of Red River where seldom if ever Their flickering camp-fires burn. Chorus How often at night when the heavens are bright With the light from the glittering stars Have I stood here amazed and asked as I gazed If their glory exceeds that of ours. Chorus Oh, I love these wild prairies where I roam The curlew I love to hear scream, And I love the white rocks and the antelope flocks That graze on th
